If you are like me I’m guessing that you love your dogs. You don’t treat them as pets, but as family that you enjoy going home to after the end of a long and tiring day. What’s not to love? Dogs are faithful, loyal and unconditional in their love for you. It’s only natural that we reciprocate by endeavoring to provide them the best care that we can give them. One of the most important things we can ever do for them is to provide them with healthy dog food.

Without a question, a good diet is foundational to your animal’s best health. When you give your dog an excellent and well-balanced diet, he will not only have perfectly functioning internal systems, he will also look better as well. A shiny coat, clear eyes, good skin and a happy bark are all indicative of a sound and healthy canine.

The best diet you can give your dog is the natural diet. Fresh meat, fruits and vegetables contain the natural minerals that he needs for great health. I don’t know how much or how often you feed your dog, but it’s better to spread small meals throughout the day rather than giving him big meals at once. Even as you give him nutritious food, be sure to monitor his calorie intake. An obese or overweight dog is subject to many canine health complications.

Keep in mind that not all food ingredients can be fed to our dogs. That’s right—that means you cannot just give him leftovers, table scraps or whatever random thing you can find in the cupboard. Certain food substances are harmful to the canine and feeding him these will be detrimental to his health. Research on these harmful food choices and be careful to avoid them at all costs.

Now, understandably not everyone has the time or luxury to plan and prepare Fido’s meals. No matter how much we do want a natural pet, fed with the freshest food—for some of us, it’s just not possible. Don’t worry— you are not committing a dog crime if you give him dog food from a grocery shelf. There are some excellent dog food brands that do give dogs the vitamins and nutrients that they needs.

It is recommended that you choose dog food that are dehydrated. This is the mildest method of processing. The nutrients found in the food ingredients are retained. Make an effort to buy food that have no preservatives, additives or artificial flavorings or colorings. Many of these dog food that have no fillers will also end up being more economical for you. This is because your dog will feel full with less food— therefore, you don’t need to feed your dog more and the food that you are feeding him are only of the highest quality.

I know you want the best for your dog, so choose only healthy dog food for his diet. It is an investment you are making towards your dog’s life. When you do, you can be assured of spending many more happy and memorable years with your beloved dog. Enjoy!
